“RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR…”

Thanks to the team at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards for creating this video in 2019. View our full video collection by clicking here.

Below you’ll find snippets from Moor Hall’s features in the press, from reputable & respected food guides and publications.

“His refined, highly original dishes feature some terrific English produce, including some lesser-known herbs and plants, and his versatility results in a range of cleverly blended flavours, textures and temperatures”

The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2022

“You will never look at a turnip in the same way after tasting what Birchall can do to this humble root vegetable by adding crab, sunflower seeds and anise hyssop, and although langoustine with smoked marrow and venison with kale and beetroot are more conventional pairings, they are so exquisitely cooked you will run out of superlatives before dessert”

Susan D’Arcy, The Times

“The sounds, colours, textures, ingredients and sights seem to have the hand of a great artist behind each new sensation.”

Fay Maschler, Tatler

“To the casual observer, Moor Hall is a wonderful, cosseting, thoroughly delicious experience, a tasting menu of big flavours, remarkable subtleties and beautiful presentation…to those of us who’ve spent many years in and around the world of hospitality…Moor Hall is all of the above and a well-oiled, exquisite machine.”

Neil Davey, The Times

“Mark is an incredibly talented chef… Moor Hall is an almost immaculate experience – Mark’s food is clever and inventive but also delicious… It’s an outstanding restaurant that deserves its title as the best in the UK”

Stefan Chomka, Editor of Restaurant Magazine (No.1 Ranking restaurant in the UK, National Restaurant Awards 2019 -2021)

“Mark Birchall brings his knowledge and experience together in a style of his own, where skilfully executed dishes combine the classic flavours of the region with modern techniques and a light touch.”

The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2020

“Without a doubt the hottest restaurant in Lancashire by a country mile.”

The Waitrose Good Food Guide 2020 (Cooking score 9/10)

“…everything coming out of the kitchen is exquisite. What Mark Birchall can do with carrots and turnips is just remarkable…”

Harden’s Restaurant Guide UK 2020 (Score 5/5)

“Expect virtuoso creations built on ingredients that can’t be bettered, executed with unsurpassed attention to detail and a highly evolved way of doing things.”

The AA Restaurant Guide 2020

“Mark’s food was sheer joy… the dishes, served on local pottery, tasted natural, seasonal and delicious.”
