Mark was asked to be part of the 40th anniversary of The Roux Scholarship at The Dorchester in London last month. The evening brought together friends, family, Roux Scholars, and some of the biggest names in British hospitality to celebrate the incredible legacy of Michel and Albert Roux.
28 Roux Scholars, gathered together, marking the Scholarship’s milestone; a powerful reminder of the impact Michel and Albert have had, creating a community of chefs who’ve all benefited from their guidance.
The Roux family shared heartfelt speeches, reflecting on what Michel and Albert meant to them. A moving tribute film followed, with touching archive footage and interviews with chefs like Angela Hartnett, Rowley Leigh, and Richard Corrigan, showing just how far their influence has reached.
Later, Mark joined John Williams and Matthew Fort on stage to speak about the Roux family’s impact. Mark spoke of how Michel and Alain have been incredible mentors, shaping not only his career but how he inspires others in his own kitchen.
The night also celebrated The Roux Scholarship itself, showing how it’s transformed the industry and opened doors for so many chefs, including Mark. It was amazing to see so many familiar faces, from Raymond Blanc and Tom Kerridge to Simon Rogan and Claude Bosi, all gathered to honor the Roux legacy.
Mark had this to say:
“It was a truly special evening—a celebration of not just their incredible contribution to British gastronomy but the lasting community they’ve built. I’m proud to be part of it. ”
